Hi. I’m a South African freelance journalist, photographer and academic. My PhD was in Aristotle’s economics and I used to be the director of the South African environmental organisation Earthlife Africa JHB from 2008 to 2016. I am also a Research Fellow at the Unit for Environmental Ethics, Stellenbosch University.

In Nov. 2021, I was shortlisted for the Fetisov Journalism Awards for Outstanding Investigative Reporting and won the 2022 Superscrieri press prize. Politics, environment and economics are my beat and I publish in Christian Science Monitor, Süddeutsche Zeitung, NRC Handelsblad, Business Day, Mongabay, Sunday Times, Mail & Guardian, Financial Mail and Africa Confidential.
